Hi Guys, My niece wants to catch a salt water fish in the worst way. I figured a good start for her first trip would be something easy........ shad in the salt pond. Never did the live shad thing, but I know they get big. Do these rigs catch them? Or am I better off with a shad dart? How do you fish Sabiki's just drift and jig em? Thanks for the help. AT

| I use the Sabiki rigs over the summer. I get to the boat and I catch shad off the back of it before it leaves. All I do is cast the rig out and just bounce it off the bottom and triple headers aren't uncommon. Makes great fluke bait. | ||

| Not sure how old your niece is, but if she's young you don't need her hauling in five hooks or she'll probably end up with one of them in her. Just use a shad dart. green/chartruese or red/white are our favorites. If the shad are there you'll catch all you can. If she's not that young and you go with a sabiki, use a dart for a weight at the end of the rig.

Lots of good post there. ckonkol, agree....I've been given some as bait for fluke KILLER!! Bob&Mag, she's 5 and I'm not sure how she will handle the rod&reel. I've got a short 5' boat rod with a small 9M on it. Maybe I'll snip the rig in half to give her a couple hooks. I'll also bring some darts. Capt. Curt, funny I was thinking that. My first ever SW trip as a kid was on Brewster Flats in late may for macks. My uncle had a 16' Alumicraft side console boat and we'd run out of Sesuit and around the coast line. We'd load up on them, then my aunt would fry them up in cornmeal.......can honestly say this is the only time I ate Macks. I have a buddy from Ireland who comes over now and then........he loves them!! Thanks for the responses, Happy Easter!!

they are delicious smoked and last year we had mackeral sushi that was great too. | ||

| Smoked......I'l have to try that. Good idea Bryan A with the Zebco........I'll have to see if they have a Hanna Montana one  That's her favorite........I'm sure it will keep her interested. Make it interesting and fill it with PowerPro
