Lobstah Tog / Seabass INHERITANCE 10-18-08 (PICS)

The crew this day was Clify (fortier26), myself (74Formula233), my brother Dave (ifish), Brian (Albatross), and Hawaiian Punch Dave (Seacraft74HP).

Left the dock at 6AM with 5 gallons of crabs and a sh1tload of gear LOL. "ifish" Dave was already set up pre-cutting a bunch of crabs. Had a stiff NE wind already, and headed out toward our first spot. An hour later we were on the hook and trying to "drum up business"

Right off the bat, seabass after seabass start coming in. Nice ones too! Well, except for Hawaiian Punch's aquarium seabass LOL......he ended up getting the boobie prize for smallest seabass and the most choggies I will admit it was a tie between he and I for SMALLEST choggie, me hooking one only twice the size of my hook, even hooking it IN the mouth LOL.

Anyway, the tide and wind were working against each other and we started a nasty swing. On and off the fish, but picking nice seabass still. After several adjustments and some time, Brian hauled over a couple SLAMMER toggies, one ~10#, and the other damn close, but no less than 9#. A few more QUALITY keeper togs, seabass, and some dead time, and we decided to pull the hook and move. Slow bite here, though we marked like a basturd.

I moved us to another spot and got on the hook there. Good structure, marking fish. Still swinging, we managed to stay on the structure. We pulled sporadic togs and even more seabass here, but the togs were almost all QUALITY, tho the numbers were not heavy. We had a few that were 16", but the rest were nice fat fish, with several 8#'s, 9#'s and one or two 10#. Other than that, it was scup after scup, cunners....you know, all the sh1t you get when the tog bite is off. The togs we did get were VERY SUBTLE hits, several of them just "hanging there", for us to find them with thye bait in their mouth only after lifting slightly to check the bottom LOL.

It was a long day to do what we did, and chewing thru 5 gallons of crabs between the 5 of us. We worked our ballz off with a slow bite and VERY passive hits, and all the robbers and sh1tfish mixed in.

It blew like a basturd most of the day, the forecast was dead on.

We noticed very few boats, and almost all were moving all day and most left early. We were the only one around for quite a while near the end of the day LOL. Well, except for those people who think sailing in NE winds on a cold day is fun

Had fun regardless, with endless ball-busting as usual

Water temp is still 62, still warm, so it will get better. The full moon was on the 14th and still very full this morning. Had a lot to do with the off-bite, as we had aggressive bites the previous weekend (still have to do that report )

A few more weeks until Inheritance is pulled, then I guess I'll have to dress extra warm with FULL Grundens to fish on the "open boats" that are still in. Been there, done that, that's toggin'

Anyhow, I just finished some Oven Fried Tog a lil while ago, was awesome! I think Brian and "ifish" Dave were both having Seabass and eggs this AM for breakfast LOL

Here are my pics, but Brian has more to put up.

Total Tally:

17 Togs
24 Seabass

Many throwback seabass, not so many throw-back togs!

Thanks again Eric and Capt. Clif for taking me out there! I had a blast even though the fishing was a little tough. We really had to work for those fish yesterday but we hung in and put a day together That bite at the very end of the day was a sign of things to come...A nice little cold snap this week should have the toggies chewin hard by next weekend

It was great to fish with Dave again and to meet the other Dave. Great crew and all around great day on the water. Inheritance rocks!!

Yep, if you can get past the damn blues LOL. We have been marking bass all over down along Bonnet, Newport, Narragansett......but the blues have been all over. Trying to dunk eels has been tough.

The togs turn on and off even on good days, due to the tidal current mostly. Slack current, you get scup, tide picks up again, you get togs.

This day, the bite was off period, due to the moon. And it was all over, based on the radio and the fact nobody stayed in one spot LOL and all screwed early.

But I can tell you....there are some SERIOUSLY NICE QUALITY togs around right now......as Brian said the other day while we were out, it's almost scary to think what will happen when they bust wide open.

Nice work out there Eric. Hopefully, we get another blast of warmer weather (& a break from the wind) before it's time to pull. With that water temp, it's far from over yet...
