Lobstah TOGGIN' Heatin' Up! + A nice Bass too LOL

My father and I headed out 5:45 out of Allen Harbor.

Armed with eels & crabs, headed down to points outside the bay for a try at some bass.

After a couple drifts down by Narragansett, my father's Avet SX starts stripping off, and he was in Strike (I thought he was in free-spool the way the line was running off LOL). This was a decent fish, and no blue, for a freakin' change!

The fish surfaced after taking a good amount of line, and he worked it in.

Netted the striper, and measured 42", nice and fat......had some nice girth! In the cooler of saltwater it went, after ripping it's gills

Made a few more drifts in the area, and missed a shot at some topwater action, as some bass came up and went down as quick as I was able to get another rod out and tie on a plug

Made some casts all around, leaving my eel out and in the rodholder, but nothing....damn it LOL......

Headed over toward Seal Rock off Newport, made a drift while I cleaned the now bled-out bass and put the fillets on ice. Nothing. Ran into "TommyO", he had pulled a nice striper up just then as we saw him.

Anyway, we switched over to Toggin', as I wanted to catch the tide change.....

Headed to our spot, and started to try to get on the structure......had some trouble getting set up, as the wind was just starting it's switch from N/NE to E to SE

Tried 4 or 5 times, on the 5th, I was hauling the anchor again with the windlass when it stopped working. Popped the circuit breaker. I reset it, and still got nothing......After a quick look, we saw the motor has an internal thermal cutout, and the motor had gotten very hot and shut itself down internally as well.

Oh well, back to ol' "MANUEL ANCHOR"......after a bit of cursing LOL, I went up, popped the access cover off the windlass, and did it the way we always used to......

Well, let me say that that damn 25# CQR with it's 20' of heavy chain SUCKS to haul by hand! LOL Holy Sheepsh*t!

Anyway, once I finished hauling, I wrapped the chain around the cleat, went back to the helm, positioned the boat exactly where I figured I needed to be, hoping to only do this ONCE now......then ran up, released the anchor, and dropped back and stabilized......RIGHT ON THE SMALL PIECE OF STRUCTURE I WANTED ALL ALONG

So, we started fishing and once the tide started running (missed the last of the incoming due to our snafu), we started hitting the togs. Nice fish, nicer than last weekend's trip at the same spot.

Today we were all alone there, except one local charter who came by, anchored, pulled some scup for live bait, and screwed.

Pulled our limit of keepers in VERY short order today LOL, all from 17 1/2" to 21"

From that point on it was catch/release......lots more keeper size fish came over the rail today! Much better keeper to short ratio. Surface water temp was the same as last weekend.

When we ran out of crabs, we left. Oh, and we had 2 bluefish come and take our eels we left out for a "stray bass" while we were blackfishing. But, with no steel leader, it was only a "game-fight" until they bit the line, both of 'em LOL.

Windlass had cooled down and we lazily pulled the anchor THAT way after we were done (boy, we're spoiled these days LOL).......

Sorry no pics, we both said to each other as we were leaving the Harbor that we had forgotten our cameras.........

**EDIT** we fished somewhere in this area LOLOL.......

Nice job Eric (and Cliff). Windlass woes...spoiled you have become.

On another note, I think I see secret spot "X" in that pic. It may end up like ol' ChuckA's bunker sighting your next trip out.
