Smile Weekend Tog 10/11-12

We got out over the weekend on both Saturday and Sunday to some Blackfishing.
Had found a couple new spots late last fall, from looking at the charts and then checking out the area. We decided to give them a try over the weekend as the weather was going to be pretty much perfect.
Anchored up on the first spot on Saturday on an outgoing tide and light breeze. Used green crabs both days for bait.
1/2 hour into the first trip I caught an Aquarium tog about 10" long LOL.
Then it picked up and we caught a tog about every 10-15 minutes for the next 1 1/2 hours. In total we had 10 keepers and one short. Biggest was 7 1/2 lbs. Nice thing was no porgies or cunners. The rest of the keepers ranged 15"-17". Took two tog home for supper, one for us and one for a neighbor.

On Sunday Maggie and I took a friend to the same spot as we fished on Saturday. Again on the outgoing using greenies.
We started catching within about 10 minutes and hauled in 25 in 2 1/2 hrs.
The largest was just over 9 lbs.
We did catch some porgies and some short tog Sunday though.
We took home 8 of the nicer keepers.

On both days when we were leaving, we checked the second, untried spot, out and the ff showed many fish there. Maybe try that spot during the week. It was definately worth scouting out some new spots for when the regular places either are crowded or not producing.

edit to add... I forgot to mention depth, which was 12 to 15 feet. High to mid outgoing tide.

I wish you guys would not be so chatty about the togging this season. If our DEP reads how well you are doing, they just might close down the recreational and commerical tog fishing by October 16 2008. Seriously, so far this has been the best tog season I can ever remember, not to mentioned the great weather we have been having as well. It seems strange to catch togs under what appears to be the "hazy, lazy, days of summer. If this is what global warming is doing, then bring it on as I love it.

Thanks Andy.
Scup, You just may be right about DEP LOL.
Nothing like tee shirts and tog though.
Went out today to the same spot but water
was rough and roiled up. It's very shallow so
here's my excuses....
1. Maggie wasn't' with me
2. Water rough and dirty
3. Was letting others catch the fish today
Anyway we only got 5 or 6 keepers though
3 were approx. 8 - 9 lbs and those three caught
with a couple minutes of each other by three fisherman.
Large school cruising??????
