Westbrook Weekend report

Saturday we fished SWR and Cranes. didn't do anything at SWR but found a few fish at Cranes. drifted live eels for a few hits but not nearly as good as the guys with live bunker or shad. ended up with 1 at 40" and 1 at 32". Lost 3 to the couple of novice anglers that let the bass break off by going under the boat and around the motor.. Very frustrating as I wanted so see them get the fish.

Sunday I worked my ass off covered around 50 miles in the rough water and hit every sopt I know from the mouth of the CT river to 6 mile and back. Could not find fish. Tried dragging wire in a bunch of places but most of the water was void of bait or signs of life. I have never seen such a lack of bait in the Westbrook area. lately I have to go over to Old Saybrook or all the way west to Falkners before I see any life on the FF.

Bruce, I had noticed a couple weeks ago that the bait was moving off LSS. I have seen bait in close in the harbors during this past week.

You are lucky you see bait in Guilford, up until Saturday I hadn't seen any, but it's starting to look up. I saw some decent bunker schools Saturday morning.

Stripy, we found bunker schools right on top of North Rip on Friday. Lots of big blues under them. Faulkners area always seams to have fish for me.

Bruce, I'm def doing something wrong. I work north rip all the time, i live 10 minutes from the guilford docks and I've gotten less than 5 blues this year in the sound!!!!!!!! I'm actually trying to catch blues! I go to RI, whole different story. I may try the rip tonight, or I may go blue crabbing, or both!

Frank, I don't see any difference at the town dock. Usable but be careful of the edge.
