South Koreans who love to fish will now be able to use their cell phones to help locate the catch of the day. SK Telecom has introduced the service which uses a float-shaped ultrasonic transmitter connected to a cell phone on one end and a fishing line on the other. The transmitter sends out ultrasonic pulses to gauge the density of fish in the surrounding water and communicates this back to a receiver plugged into a cell phone. The service needs a transmitter / receiver device which cost approximately 120,000 won ($129). The software can be downloaded to the cell phone cost approximately $5. The device shows the location of the fish and the dept and temperature of the water. Back in 2004 SK Telecom became the first to introduce a service using ultrasonic waves to repel mosquitoes which attracted an additional 10,000 new users per year (according to SK Telecom). All other South Korean's telcom followed SK Telecom to offer the service.
