Great Idea Jim

We need to keep the kids involved as this is the future to this great sport. IF we do not, it will go the way hunting did over the past several decades. It is awesome so bring it on down.

Exactly Dave and Congrats Jim on the idea. I used to be the Chairman of the Junior's Committee for RISAA and it is a lot of work.

As for a name how about "Skipjacks"

By COPPA rules, anyone under 13 cannot sign up for an account, without parental permission. We cannot assume the liability for those under age 13, and really do not wish to get into the whole authorization forms and the like. To much headache and legal filing/retention, really.

I am all for creating a kids forum, however, that will change the rules of the board if we target kids, 13-17 years in age. It requires that all material be managed. I can do that, a password protect a forum...

Anything i can do to help or support this board count me in.

if we dont get and keep the youth involved it is worse than all the restrictive regs in the world.

Done....

JUNIOR SPORTSMEN

By the law, we cannot encourage those under 13 to sign up, without significant liability. That being said, there is always a "workaround", if you know what I mean... wink-wink, nudge-nudge

Hi Folks,

I have always thought anything to do with kids is fantastic. I still do but with all the low life individuals stalking on the internet I feel the young people have to be protected. Yes, I know they go all over the internet on their own BUT as a public forum a site such as this has to be very careful.

Is it possible to have a youth forum and have the youth members carefully registered and screened so no one who should not be there can get in? Or Maybe not allow PM's or emails to the yoputh members.

Sorry for sounding like a fuddy dud but I care.

Capt Neil

Hi Guys,

I get along great with kids, love having them on my vessel, and agree with all the sentiments about keeping/getting kids involved.....but I just see too many obstacles and potential problems with targeting anyone under say 16 on this site.

I like the idea of having a kids corner, but why not limit it to members children, with permission only, or something to that effect? I think maybe a password protection on the main forums would be in order as well..... I have used language and terminology here that I would never use around children, and I think alot of the smileys even might be awkward at best.....Nevermind all the great points Capt. Neil brought up.....

The whole concept of this site in itself(just the name alone) is adult in nature, no?

I too feel we should be involved with getting todays youth interested in this great sport. Visiting the site with your kid can be a fun and rewarding experience, I'm a huge fan of Anthony, Gmans son, but I wouldn't want him going through some of my posts, and others as well.......

How about we start a mini site dedicated to childrens programs, education, and topics, with a fishing theme.....I would become a contributing member immediately. That would seem a more appropriate idea to me.....

Kids and Regs

Tony,

If we can get these kids and their friends to start sending letters to their legislators regarding unfair quotas, MPA's etc it would be awesome. If we don't get kids involved (not saying NBS is the way) our voices will deafen over the years. I hope you have a great season, you bring up great points.
