The best way to breed interest and make kids want to learn is to meet them on their level. I do a kids program at a club I do charters for, and we start by walking the shoreline a few times before we even get into the fishing aspect. By the time I'm finished with the intro to bay ecology and responsible stewardship, these kids are either hooked(pun intended), or back with mom and dad doing something else. I then have a few kids who are eager to learn and ready to be mentored as best I can in the few times I get them over the summer. These are good kids, who I hopefully have helped on the path to keeping the outdoor mindset alive.
I was able to stay out of any serious trouble growing up because I was either in the woods or on the water from the time I was 6(maybe sooner), and I know there are many kids who could be enlightened like I was by adults like you guys and me ....I'm just not sure this is the medium still.......
