| New England Salt Water Fishing Show Promo OK, I just got a call from Inn Seasons Resorts stating I won a vacation package and was selected from the RI Fishing Show. Of course I would have to go up to Falmouth and go through a 90 min presentation to receive the gift. Wondering how many of you guys got the same call. This happened to me once when I was in St Martin and it was a total scam. |

| I won one time. I went to the presentation and sat in the back with my laptop and headphones on. They got pissed off, so I pulled out the contract. It only said I had to attend, it didnt say listen. So not to make a scene they left me alone. Later we had to take a tour of the new addition and rooms. I went and got my nastiest work boots , they didnt want me walking on the new carpets, so I stayed outside and would catch up when they went from building to building. In between I would duck into the nearest poolside bar. This all took place on the second day of a four day weekend. On day three they threatened to throw me out, I told them to send for the cops. Guess they didnt want to look bad in front of all the other potential buyers. On day four it was the tough sale with their proffesional closer. This guy had no clue as to what I had pulled and kept reffering to the ammenities in the new construction. I kept telling him they never showed me that and he would write it down. I would have loved to see his report on me. The rest of the free vacation was cool. The resort was nice, the food was good and the staff was pleasent. I behaved and tipped well. I just screwed the independant company that had bought part of the land to build timeshares on. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :evil 6:![]() ![]()

I told him about your post and when he called back, it was the same place you got the call from! He gave them hell, calling them back several times......told them he filled out a card for free gas, not some scam from some resort. The guy gave him attitude and kept trying to say it wasn't a scam bla bla bla....... ![]()

| So the deal is that you not only have to wait out the 90 min presentation but they make you go through that during the 4 day "vacation"? I have a 2 and 6 year old. Maybe I should amp them up on some dark chocolate and soda and bring them along. Glad you screwed the promo company. |

You would think these marketing tactics do more harm then good. I guess they must work to some extent though. | |

| This is exactly why I don't fill out any entries at any large event that I go to. All they want is your name and number. I went to the Big E one time with my wife and we won all sorts of vacation trips and home improvements. All were high pressure sales pitches. I buy what I want from the shows and don't fill out any entries. GP |

| I guess the thought of winning free gas got me good. Filled the tank in the boat last night, that hurt a lot. |

| Identity Theft Did not think it could happen, but one of my family members just got nailed. Bank account was just cleaned out by a West Coast bastard and a phony ATM card. Apparently, an official looking but phony email performing a maintenance check was received. The bastard then had the capability and skill to generate a working ATM card. While it should be obvious one should never give out any information over the web, this hoax nailed hundreds. I am still not sure exactly how one should protect themselves against these rats, but I just canceled all of my infrequently used credit cards, called all of my local banks and instructed them to never remove monies electronically from any of my accounts. Monies can only be removed if I show up in person and with an ID. AMT machines and automatic bill paying will never be in my future. Reduced all of my accounts to a minimum that are required for plastic purchases. I am still not convinced I have done everything possible but I am going to throw every road block that I can think of in the path of these clever bastards. Fortunately, in my family member's case, the bank will restore the stolen funds. However, I do not believe the bank was obliged to do so, and it was their generosity in easing what could of been an extremely painful experience.
