FIOS is slower then cable by about 50% here on L.I. I like the cable here and with fios in the area now call and tell cable to disconnect you. When they ask why tell them you`re switching to fios and they will lower your bill. Worked for me.

I think that's what it comes down to here....a lot of people hate the cable company we have, for various reasons......

But I have used several family member's computers on COX and find the speed is so damn variable all the time, it's ridiculous.....

I think it depends where you are and what time of day.....

So sometimes it can be real fast, others, slow as whale poo.

Never found that variability with what I have, it's consistently fast, with no down time.....on COX I have sat and watched the "world turn" in the upper right hand corner LOL......

I do not experience that with COX.
The speeds you see above are always the same....

I doubt anyone here has a connection that is faster. Heck, half as fast.

Check your speeds here: Speakeasy Speed Test

A couple things to mention here:
Cable is much faster than dsl I regularly attain over 14 meg/sec d/l
You may want to consider a promotional package. NOTE it's only good for a year but you can get
cable modem (broadband internet)
digital cable t.v.
telephone service
for $99/mos plus fees
Just thought I'd mention it as when you combine
phone bill, sat t.v. and dsl you're going to far exceed the
package price. Even if you keep it for a year and dump them
you've still saved a lot of money for a superior product.

p.s edit adding I just performed test described above and it
got 15,095 d/l

Comcast Package

Do you loose the phone if cable goes out withthe package deal with comcast? I am moving down to Plymouth, MA which has a different area code. I want to be able to keep my 781-871-2113 RELENTLESS CHARTERS business number and I hope I can do it.

Modern technology is too confusing for this simple charter guy.

If cable went out it would depend if it was completely down or specific frequencies. That would determine which services would be off.
I'd call the cable company for the area you are moving to. With portability, they may be able to keep the same number. In any event, it's worth a phone call.
p.s. you may need to speak with a telephony tech as the csr may not know.

Portability laws are for cell phones not land based. Area codes are specific....

Actually they are or were for both. When snet fought the local cable companies years back, saying you had to take the number they gave, ruling was the numbers could/would be moved with the customer per dpuc. This goes back to around 99 when tci was first with phone in ct.
