Seaclops,

You hit the nail right on the head about knowing the problem back in the 70's and we did nothing about it then. Now it's time to do something about it. Carpool, boatpool, burning wood, pellets, natural gas and simply shutting off lights when your not using them will help.

I've been burning wood all year and it's a little extra work but I enjoy it. It's nice knowing that I am not so dependent on home heating oil.

The fishing thing is another issue - I'm addicted and can't help doing it.
The guy who dies with the most fishing memories wins in my book.

we seem to have plenty of domestic oil available to us. about time to grow a set, tell the tree huggers & carabou advocates (most who are upper income & not bothered by energy cost yet) where to go & DEVELOPE our own supply and refining capabilities to the maximum! there is now technology available to do so safely and in an environmantally sound manner. then, while using our own oil we can work on alternatives other than the ethanol failure.

imho

p.s. getting my zincs & bottom paint this week!

Diesel fuel $4.01 a gallon yesterday. There is no oil crissis or shortage. Its now the largest traded commodity on the commodities market. Traders are making millions of dollars a month, not year buying and selling the stuff. I've yet to see one gas station or fuel oil company close or limit supply. This is not the seventies where the Arabs cut the oil coming in. This is the twenty first century rip off by our own people. This is corporate and wall st greed at its worst. I watch the oil tankers(not barges) line up every winter in Long Island sound off Riverhead waiting to unload. These supertankers are sometimes three deep waiting to get in. I have a frind who works there in the pump house. He pumps either fast or slow depending on which way their commodities expert believes they price will go when the tanker is empty. They dont pay until all the oil is pumped off.
I really think its time to bring back good old fashion rioting in this country. I am starting to stockpile guns and ammo everytime they go onsale. Wait I cant buy guns at Kmart or Walmart anymore. Yeah rioting sounds better and better everyday. THis country is going to have to hit rock bottom before the supersize my burger crowd will get off its ass and start fighting back.:Bang Head:

Bottom Line is we are slaves to fuel Period. Fuel oil/Gas prices are were they are because we will pay it period. And the oil companines know it. Domestic oil could be cheeper but it wont be cuz if everyone else on the block is selling it for 1 dollar so will we..

Maybe the world needs a reality check. We as individuals have become complacent, wasteful, and unappreciative for the basics in life...........

This may be a good time to reconsider life priorities, and think basic.........
LOL did we grow up in the same household?

Jeeeezzzzz I know......I think it was a sign of the times.............

I remember waiting in line at the gas station in the back seat fo my father's station wagon (with no seat belt on, and as my father smoked a cigarette) for fuel.. My brother and I would get on each other and push my father to the "WHACK"!! point. It was amazing how he could catch both of us with one backhand

LOL we always had big bomber wagons.....

A shit brown/wood panel side LTD wagon, a pukey green Malibu wagon......a pukey green w/wood panel Mercury Cougar wagon.....

My old man got a shit brown Pinto wagon and drove that around to work too.

For some reason, in any one of those cars, the hand would always reach back and start waving around, catching whoever's face was in reach, when we acted up LOL.

Except when they used to put us in the "way-back" (remember that term? LOL) in the reverse facing seat........for some reason we were always quieter there........wonder if it had to do with the open rear sliding glass hehehe......

See, WE know where the term "station-wagon-effect" comes from

We're getting screwed!!! One thing I keep asking myself is why the Teamsters/Truckers havn't gone off yet. Back in the 70's we would've heard from them by now. To many oil people running (ruining )this country. When I went and paid for my oil delivery they were all excited that someone was paying on time, they have more $$'s owed to them than ever before.
