Part Time out of commission

Boy did I f@#$ up. Some of you know I upgraded to a Boston Whaler 235 Conquest this summer. I knew all along I would have to make my garage door opening higher to fit it with the hard top. Not a problem I have the room just had to remove the header. I got everything set and the last thing to do was raise the mounting bracket for the torsion bar. Thats when it all went bad. The vice grips slipped and the bracket unwound taking a good chunk of my hand with it. To make matters worse it caught my shirt and wound it up. Good thing my employees were near by they had to cut my shirts off me to free me. The end result is Two severed tendons, severed nerves and the lower bone of my thumb is totaly missing. I have to go to a hand surgoen Mon. I will need a bone graff reconnect the tendons and nerves and more than likley a skin graff. sorry about the long rant . Be careful out there you never know what kind of accidents can happen. Dan

Dan,

That is harsh. I REAL glad you alright overall. F'ing up your hand really sucks, but at least your still around. Those tendon re-connects are not fun, but doctors these days are amazing. I severed both tendons on my left hand, pinky, near 20 years ago and the dox were able to fix'er up pretty good, and the finger works. The rehab was the tougher part. The bone and skin grafts will be tough as well, as there are so many nerves in the hand that you never really knew of.

Keep us posted and best of luck to you with the doctors and such.

Hey, at least you didn't F-Up the boat...

man, i know the feeling. couple weeks back while installing a large bay window it got away from us...top heavy. followed it to the ground to save the window, but dislocated the left shoulder. long story short is torn ligaments & whatever they call the socket (inside the rotater cuff).
surgery dec.1st....6 weeks imobile...therapy & rehab after that.... out of service for 6 months!
we are not as "bullet proof " as we used to be.
cost me some toggin', most of my hunting, & a boatload of lost work!
good luck & heal quickly. we'll be back at it next spring...mk
