Banded Rudder Fish

A Banded Rudder fish! we catch them here on the cape when catching snappers. They hang around pots and rafts. and some have a yellow tail just like a small tuna.

Please help to identify this fish

i was bottom fishing the red can right in front of Falmouth Harbor yesterday with my kids.....We caught 4 fish that I had never seen before....i remembered this thread and thought they could be the banded rudderfish that many agreed was the likely species......After catching these fish, im not so sure.

The fish we caught were about 10 inches or so...very fast and strong for their size and looked exactly like a small amberjack......

Im wondering if we had indeed caught a few lesser amberjacks.....though uncommon, their range includes Mass. waters.......

There were no bands on these fish and there is no doubt that they were some kind of jack.....
