Jim, Its Thanksgiving Day and we hope you are having a great time with your families and enjoying the fabulous food. When you sit down for that second helping of pumpkin pie, stop on by and see the 2006 Holiday Edition of Mike's Maritime Memorabilia. It is a treasure trove of the very best vintage photos and memorabilia from Mike's collection! Our holiday season starts early this year, but we want to make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy this special collection. Our Holiday Edition will remain on the site from Thanksgiving Day until the New Year and includes photos and memorabilia related to the historic fishing port of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY from 1905 through 1975. Included in the Holiday Edition is this 1932 postcard of Captain Henry 'Harry' Rigby's "BROOKLYN" from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY. The "BROOKLYN" was built by Captain Rigby in 1920 across the street from the Sheepshead Bay fleet on Emmons Avenue. Captain Rigby retired in 1937, but the boat continued to sail as the "CARRIE D II" until 1979 when she was dismantled. Mr. Ernest Tanare of Brooklyn, NY was the official photographer of the Sheepshead Bay fleet during the 1930s and he produced this postcard as well as many others we have on display. Postcard courtesy of Captain Tony 'Mo' Barbato. We are now displaying more than 800 vintage photos of party fishing boats, marinas, lightships, lighthouses and other interesting stuff from the New Jersey/New York saltwater fishing scene on our Mike's Maritime Memorabilia pages. We encourage you to browse these wonderful pictures and enjoy over one hundred years of our fishing heritage. Best Wishes for a Joyous Holiday Season! Regards, --Mel Deak www.Mels-Place.com - A comprehensive directory of saltwater fishing sites on the Internet... fishing gear & tackle, manufacturers, dealers, private & governmental organizations, fishing boats, weather & tides, educational resources, fishing news and vintage party boat pictures. It's quite a collection, so come on in... the water's fine! | ||
