| Snow Pack Almost History Here.... By days end, the last snowbank in my yard should be history. There's been snow or ice in my yard non-stop since December 13th. I cannot recall having a winter in recent memory that did not have several significant warm spells that thawed everything. I know I'm away from the coast and that most of you may not have seen what was happening inland but this past winter was not exceptionally cold, the snowfalls were not exceedingly heavy but we did have a prolonged snow pack. I'm left wondering if the thaw, couped with all this rain and the excessive water in the rivers will have any effect on the spring run. We started out last year with warm water temps early and I think it played a significant role in the summer fishing. Warmer water resulted in fewer summer resident fish. Here's hoping for a little cooler water and better summer striper fishing.

| Sold my first zincs and bottom paint yesterday; the boating season and fishing is coming! My spirits always pert up this time of the year. Felt pretty sorry though, for some of my some of my customers that are lobster men and commercial fisherman (large steel boats.) They tell me it has been really tough all around. Pots are not being set as usual, and commercial fishing boats are tied up in port until they think they have chance of staying in the black if and when they go out. |
