Spider bots

Has anyone noticed all the "spider bots" that have visited the site in the past 24 hours? I noticed them listed at the bottom of the home page. Does anyone know what a spider bot is/does?

Ahh, that would be a question for me, the NB$ Egghead.

Bots are scanning and reading pages in order to list them on their search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc...) The more data they read and cache, the more they are able to list.

I do control what they can and cannot read via certain files and criteria I set with the search engine itself.

They are nothing to worry about, and in all reality can help NB$ out by gaining ground on the varying search engines.

Also, as another side-note.......

You know how on many other sites it looks like there's a GAZILLION "Guests" on at any given time???

NOT the case. The majority of them are these Bots, but on many other sites they only show up as Guests. LOL

I never knew this until we started this site......first time I saw a "Spider Bot", I PMed Brad, the NB$ Egghead and inquired WTF lol.......

The truth in forums....that's all I'll ever try to provide to everyone here.

Nothing to hide.

I will gladly tell anyone what it has cost so far to run this site, both literally (dollars) and man power (the time is far and away the biggest investement needed).

The day may come where we need to migrate to a bigger/faster/stronger server configuration....when that occurs, we may need to gather funds via advertising, but it will all be disclosed up front, with details. As for my time, I love this stuff, so it's all good. Our existing friends will be given first shot at deep discounts if this ever comes to pass.

For now...the free advertising is the way will stay. Everyone is free to put their business links in their signatures or post about it. The only thing we ask is participation on the board. Active members make this place valuable.
