Teacher needs help......

As some of you may know, I am a High School Shop Teacher. We have a state grant at our school that is encouraging us to take "Externships" with local area businesses with the assumption that we will be able to take those experiences back into the classroom to share with students now and in the future.

What I need from you guys are suggestions for businesses where you work or own that I could visit and tour during the workday. I teach classes in Automotive, Engineering, Boat Building, Wood and Metal Shop and even Marine Science. The visitations do not have to be limited to these topics. Marine related would be cool for my Marine Science students. Also anything related to Manufacturing.

So lets have some suggestions. Here is a chance for you guys to let me know what I should be teaching the future workforce and for me to experience some real world applications. I have to do this before the end of the school year in June so sooner rather than later would be good. As a bonus I will also get to meet some fellow NBS guys in person. Businesses should be around the CT shoreline.

Thanks guys.

Bryan,

A wood boat building school across from the DEP ramp in Old Saybrook. I believe it's called the River School but not sure. Haven't been over that way in a few years.
Can't miss it. A wood building usually with lots of wooden boats in various stages of construction in/out side.

This is just an opportunity for me to get out into the real world and see what is going on. Visitation would probably be me and another teacher, no students. I get a break from them this time. Night fishing sounds good though, when should I show up??

I would really like to see some Manufacturing companies and take a tour, Thinking about Moroso in Guilford and Lee Co. in Westbrook to start with. Anyone have contacts there??? Other suggestions appreciated.
