Toyota Tacoma V6 or V4?

Looking at purchasing a tacoma and pros and cons of these 2 engines. I have heard that the 4's last a lot longer. I also heard that the gas mileage is about the same because the 4 works a lot harder to push the full sized tacoma versus the 6. Any ideas?

I've got a 97 tacoma with a 6 cyl.. 198 hp w/5sp 4wd.
Love it!!! Bought new and don't think I'll ever get rid of it.
Note: The tacoma is not full size, but the tundra is the full size model.

The Tundra is a beautiful truck, especially in the full 4-door model.

Big $$$$$ tho

I don't have one but there was a guy at the ramp the other day pulling a 23ft walkaround with a Tacoma. I asked if he had any troubles and he said the tow rating was 6500#. That seems like a lot for a little truck. My Expedition is only rated at 6900# with 5.4l and 4wd. I don't know which engine he had. Seemed to do the job pretty well.

Also the tacoma is rated to carry 1 ton payload. I've carried a full pallet of wall stone with no problem with mine.

Go with the 6

A close friend bought the 6 cyl and loves it.

So far everyone I know and posts I have read on this issue say that they wished they bought the 6 cyl compared to the 4cyl.

MY 2 FRIENDS OWN TACOMAS WITH 4 CYLINDERS IN THEM AND THEY LOVE THEM. I HAVE RIDDEN IN ONE OF THEM, AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH POWER. THATS JUST MY OPINION, AND OPINIONS ARE LIKE A23HOLES, EVERYONES GOT ONE AND THEY ALL STINK!

Nissan Frontier

Not sure what this has to do with fishing but just priced out the Tacoma and Tundra in Westerly RI. The dealer offered me nothing off list on the Tacoma, and $3000 off on a leftover Tundra. That put both trucks in within a few hundred of each other (the Tundra was less). Almost went for the Tundra but decided I did not need so much truck so I ended up going to a competitive dealership and buying a Nissan Frontier. The Tacoma is just so popular, the local dealers know they can sell whatever they have so do not look for a bargain here.

go with the 6

I have a 98 extra cab 4x4 with a 6 and the power is great. I had a 2 wheel drive s10 chevy before and the gas milage was not that diff. at all.
always nice to have the extra power for hauling or towing.

Tacoma

I just picked picked up an 06 Tacoma 2x4 4 cylinder 5 spd with the access cab (jump seats) with 6000 miles on it.....bought it to take the edge off an 80 mile round trip commute from the SouthCoast into Quincy....25mpg...and not a bad ride. I've only towed my 17' Whaler, which I'm guessng the package is just over 2000 lbs.....and can't even tell it's there. If you don't have an aversion to buying used you can check out autotrder.com to research market prices. Let us know how you make out.
Regards,
Bob
