thanx for the replies

what I'm really wondering I guess is the 4 bulletproof compared to the 6. I have heard you could drive the 6 to 150K and the 4 is endless say 300+K??

I hate to make a blanket statement, but it SEEMS......

That any time you read poor or mediocre reports about japanese cars, especially in cases where it is only 1 particular option within a model (take the new Camry for example.....).......

It USUALLY involves the V6 or V8 version in a particular model type. Whether it be engine or transmission, or other drivetrain issues.

Just a recent example, but certainly not the only one I have seen:

Toyota Stumbles in Consumer Reports’ Reliability Rankings (Read carefully, Camry V6, Tundra V8.....ONLY, NOT the "lower" models)

Again, just sayin', it SEEMS this way.......

This is true about lemons.......

She obviously got a lemon since I believe the statistic on those is that something like 90% of all corollas made since '86 are still on the road.....go figure.....

I dunno, I guess I still think the japs are best at 4-bangers, and still working their way up on dependable larger powerplants.....but maybe they're better at the bigger ones now than I think.......

That all said, my buddy has a '98 Tacoma with a V6, and he hasn't had a lick of trouble with the engine. He bought it used, changes the oil religiously at 3,000 miles........put a Borla cat back exhaust with K&N filter......and runs like a raped ape.
