NBS 22 Eastern Lobster

Anyone out there have any first hand experience with a 22 Eastern? I'm always pondering a fuel efficient little rig for Long Island Sound Fishing. Choices revolve around Eastern, Maritime Skiff, and Black Lab boats (Pacific Skiff). I have posted questions on other sites about Eastern and have gotten good advice, bottom line seems to avoid them but I was curious (every time I look at their website I like them). I have a good boat right know (22 Hydrasport Ocean Skiff), just considering the next rig. I took the "holiday weekend off" from fishing (bad tides and the rookies drive me nuts.) I'm looking for seaworthy and fuel efficient. 20-23 foot boats. Suggestions on other makes appreciated. Jack

Another one to seriously check out is the Carolina Skiff model 238-DLX. VERY fuel efficient and runs nicely with a 125HP, with amazing fuel economy. ARCTEKJim has one of these, and I have fished it many times. You'd be quite happy with one. Of the above, for efficiency, I'd go with the Maritime if you are limiting to the selections you provided. The Black Labs are wicked boats, but not nearly as efficient as the skiffs.

Bob & Mag has a skiff too, so hopefully he'll chime in here.

Thumbs up Boat Shopping

Possum thanks for the advice (exactly what I was looking for). Carolina was on my list, not sure what model interested me and I guess you narrowed that down. I'll have to check one out in person. Jack

JackC, Maggie and I have a 2006 maritime skiff, model 1890 with a 90 E-TEC.
Two slips over one of my fishing buddies owns an Eastern 22' with a 90 Honda.
If you would like and can come down, I'll give you a tour of them and take a ride on the maritime. Maybe it'll help. I took one out for an hour ride before buying one. I can give you numbers on mine. mph/fuel/oil etc.
For such a little boat the ride will surprise you I think.
I know you're mentioning 20'-23' and mine's a little smaller just under 19'.
There are also quite a few, if same boats in slips, at Wetmore's in Westbrook.
It really gives you an idea of how the maritime's get customized.
We had four lined up and all were set up completely differently for each owners whim.
Just let me know and we can hook up for you to kick the tires or get a good up close look at ours and our neighbor's eastern 22'.

Owned a Maritime 20-P, Eastern 22 Lobster & now have a 23 HT Black Lab/Pacific.

All good boats. I wouldn't put anything smaller than a 135hp on an Eastern Lobster 22'. I ran a 150 4S and it went well. Still have a 14' Maritime for back water fishing. Also had an MS 1890 years back. Again great boat!!

If you want to run/fish a Pacific, I'd be glad to take you out sometime. I run out of Pt. Judith.

Alloy - I'll send you a PM. I would love a ride in the Pacific. Things are a bit nuts at work but hopefully we can work something out. Jack
