What size are you looking to get? Have you been down to AOB (Atlantic Outboard)?
They've got some nice ones in the yard. One of the guys I fish with has a 22' with a pilot house. Moves along well with little power. Wide open cockpit bla bla bla I could go on , but maybe you're looking at a center console, so I'll wait....

eastern

What are you looking to use if for, that is the most important question. As every boat owner here will tell you, every boat is a trade off. Example: i have a 24 foot osprey, drifts like cr$p for cod, and the high profile makes it brutal to dock in a strong wind. That being said, it is awesome for kids (high gunnels) to whale watch on the bank offshore, and you could not bury the bow on this thing in a 14 ft seas. if your a commercial cod jigger the boats blows (although the sea anchor works fine), but if your taking tuna trolling it rocks!

So give some more description to the legion of totally bored fisherman who are dying to help you out, and have made every mistake possible in buying a boat.

I owned a 22' Lobster before my 23 Pacific.

I'm not gonna say good or bad but give some words and observations:

They are custom built, which can be good or bad. The guy whom starts the boat after the molding process finishes it. They do a pretty good job, however if I were to buy one it would be direct from the factory. I would also make numerous trips up to see the process and insure what they have built is to you liking and acceptable.

They are wood stringer boat which are encapsulated in glass.

The free board is quite low as it is built after a commercial work boat. This can however be circumvented by adding a coaming (at a price) to raise the side 4" or so.

Electrical work is good but basic. The bare necessities to get her on the water.

22' hard chine
24' round chine

Two completely different rides.

If you are close and go to Milton NH for a sea trial make them take it in the "slop" you will run with. Many boat buying decisions are made on Eastern's being run in the mill pond up the road. You want the feel in the ocean with a 3' SW chop.

They claim low HP to push them but I would not put anything less then a 135HP on the 22' Lobster.

Can be wet how ever on the Lobster you are protected

Consider as a comparison Judge Yachts Custom Boat Builders Eastern spin off but with glass stringers. Seaway Boats manufactured by Seaway Boats Inc. is another.......

Remember this: The top deck looks are only looks. Very eye catching to a NE boater. What's below the deck is what counts. This is why you want to see the boat in the early stages.

Also consider Maritime Skiff boats. Very Seaworthy fishing boatsand of course if you want to own a low maint. beer can then there is Black Lab All-Welded Plate Alloy™ Aluminum Center Console and Pilothouse Boat Manufacturer

I have a 1983 19 seaway which eastern boats now builds that I refurbished. My experience with the boat has been good. I got the boat cheap and bought a new center console direct from eastern and they were very helpful as far as different ways to install it. As far as performance goes the boat is very economical to use. I have a 1991 60 evinrude that has been very good to me.I don't think the former owner used it very much. Wide open throttle Im getting about 23 knots with two people on board and a light load. I go out fishing for the morning, 4 hrs or so, and at the most burn about 12 gallons with an old motor. Good little harbor or bay fishing boat.

So far it has been a good boat to me. Good Luck

Cool reply

i fish out of mystic ct. fluke from weekapaug to fishers i. blackfish ,some striper - bluefishing ,pretty much an inshore fisherman. i presently run an older 1986 20 ft. sportcraft which i repowered in 2001 with a yamaha 130hp on an armstrong bracket, after trashing an old 115hp omc seadrive.the boat is a stable fishing boat ,but is rough against an opposing sea.as far as gas consumption goes, it can drink pretty good .this being said,is the reason i am curious about eastern boats or semidisplacement hulls. the biggest problem is, i guess you have to spend money to save money. I believe the 19'CC is now a 20'CC.....some legalities there with Seaway Both are round chine boats. Very seaworthy smooth ride chug right through the slop

22' is a hard chine planning hull

24' is a semi displacement round chine

19 foot eastern 2005 hull

i own an eastern, bought new from dealer in new hampshire. This boat is excellent for most sea conditions inshore and you dont need a big gas guzzling engine to power it,a 75 hp e-tec was my choice probably get away with a 60 hp if you had to.The ride can get a little wet in sloppy conditions but who cares when you can use so little fuel, low h.p.,and have an excellent fishing platform. They build an 18 footer but i recomend the next size up for salt water.
