| Sounds like the vent on the tank is clogged up. Or closed | ||

| Darkman two things to check are: your in line fuel filter right before the carb and if the fuel is new the ethoanal (can''t spell) in it will make you engine run like shit . I had problems earlier this year with my outboard so I started using a higher octane rating and the engine has run fine ever since. | ||

| Hey chuck are you talking about the small dime size metal piece stuck to the back of the stern right next to the gas port its a 77 Gradywhite gulfstream...I did see gas fumes coming out when I added about 9 gal of Regular on Sunday morning coming from that vent but I'll check it . As for fuel it had between quarter and a half left (regular 89 Octance) in it over the winter that I treated with stabilizer. I was trying to run out that old stuff before I added new gas but I dont even trust that needle thats why I added 9 gallons on sunday so I wouldn't get suck out there. I was also told by one of the clerks in Boaters world in orange to change the fuel/water seporater and he recommend putting this fuel enzyme in to gas and flush that through then move up the high grade gasoline. I didn't know the exact fitting for my fuel filter 5/16 or 3/8 so I have to go back and check. | ||

| Sounds to me like phase separation of the ethanol from moisture (water) in the fuel. I would fully drain the separtor form the bottom AND drain the carbs, you may have another filter under the cowl that could be full. I wouldn't hurt to drain the tank completly and start fresh, the new gas is a pisser if you get water in it. The previous suggestion of running on another tank is excellent for determining if you problem is fuel related or not, that would be the first step. | ||

| don't get all freaked out about ethanol just yet. there are so many things that can cause what you describe. The problems with ethanol are much more related to gunk than with phase seperation. if you run the racor 10micron and the inline to boot, you shouldn't be having any problems. to me it sounds like a gummed up carb. How mechanically inclined are you?

| I would classify myself as a beginner Just got the boat last year and purchase the seloc repair manual to help me along the way. I know any good mechanic is probably hard to get right now so if its something I can do I'll give it a shot. IF I can eliminate a few things before I get to the carb like draining the tank of all the old fuel, checking the lines or leaks or possible clogging, change the fuel/water seperator, and change the fuel filter then take it back out and do a test run. | ||

| definitely change your filters. you should be doing this every year anyway. more frequently than that depending on hours. then run on a test tank. that is how you know if the problem is inside the motor (carbs/spark/throttle asmbly/etc.) or outside (vent/anti-siphon/bad lines/etc.) don't drain your tank if you don't have to. fwiw it doesn't sound like bad gas to me. btw, did you run the stabilizer through the engine after you stabilized your gas?

| This was what I observed Bill did upon winterizing last november he that pink color stabilizer to the gas tank then ask me to jump around to shake up the boat to have that stuff swish around the quarter tank of gas, then I Then he disconect the gas line right at the siphon of the engine and ask me to squeeze the prime bulb until the gas that was coming up was that faint pink color he re-connected it start the engine and let that run through before fogging the carb and cyclinders. So I don't know if that answer your question or do you mean straight stabilizer going thru the engine. | ||

| you are good to go. that is what i meant, run stabilized gas through the motor. change your filters and run with the aux tank and tell us how you make out.
