Humminbird 997 SI

Well I broke down and bought thteunit during the off season and got it mounted with the experiences from REEL CRAZY. This thing is like cheating!!!! The unit is expensive and the data card is even more so but makes the boat more fuel effecient because your not spending as much time loking for fish (bait especially). It also keeps a good sounding at higher speeds. Humminbird has another transducer that is made for high speeds but at 40 mph i have a great look with the stock unit. That is the bottm and not the SI as the prop wash throws off the signal.
The only thing is that this unit should be mounted at the lowest point on the vee in order to see both sides of the boat without obstruction. If not mounted on there there will be a blacked out area on SI as it cannot see through the hull.
Very happy so far!! Thanks Reel Crazy & Thayer's Marine for helping me get a great price on the unit.

Very curious....how deep can you "see" with any accuracy? Do you plan to use it for offshore fishing...like tuna fishing? I'd be interested to know how well it can work in about 200 ft of water.

Thanks,

Len

I haven't made it out there to see yet but I will post as soon as I do. The side scan will go to 360' on both sides of the boat. The pic should be mostly water and am very anxious myself.

Im glad you like the unit.

As far as deep water. you lose some of the bottom on the side scan but you see the water colume.
The regular sonar works great in the deep.

I love the unit. I key in on stripers on 1 drift and locating bunker is just like cheating.
