very interesting so this goes for outboard motors 2 or 4 stroke cars and all?? I guess I might be a little concerned but I guess if your using a minute amount it's probably no worries.

| I'd be curious if it has ever been utilized on a marine motor. The combustion theory is the same, but still, a bit leery, curious as all hell though. | ||

| Look into it before you try it....I read this back several years ago (the very same article) and the concensus then was it was hogwash and could actually wreak havoc on seals and gaskets......

| I was thinking just that. Those are rubber and compressed composites, which are very sensitive to solvents such as acetone. | ||

| We know what Ethanol can do to an engine, mainly the rubber parts on old engines like fuel lines and carbeurator seals and stuff. Not to mention what ethanol does to older fiberglass tanks and even aluminum. I think Acetone would be ten times worse. I use that stuff to clean tools after epoxy work. I would be a little cautious if you are going to try it. Like Bob said use it in the neighbors stuff. | ||

| Part of my job with the State was to answer inquiries such as these from other agencies and from the public. This is snake oil, my friends. There is no sceret device/addative you can add on to your engine or add to your gas to get better fuel economy. There really is no real conspiracy here between the oil companies and the manufacturers. That mythbuster TV show tested this and found a slight decrease in fuel economy (as a scientist would expect). We tested several of these in very sophisticated laboratories with very rigorous test methods and found only one device ever to help. That was a vacuum bleed device that worked on older carburated cars that were running too rich. We (along with the USEPA) never found any addative to increase fuel economy. A few like MTBE and ethanol did reduce pollution in a certain % of the fleet, but there was a cost associated with them also. I would not recommend them either. All that fuel addative junk you see in the parts stores is also worthless, especially now that we all have the ethanol blend that is about as high detergent as you can get. | ||
