| Pretty damned extensive article with a ton of side-bars! LOL I've always been impressed with E-Tecs and would buy one in a heartbeat if I was in the market for a new outboard or had my choice of power in a boat...... Have experienced both a small 90 and a pair of 250's. Simply awesome motors. ![]() ![]() ![]()

| I've got a 90 and I'm very happy after two seasons use. I will hit the 3 year before the 300 hours on it, for it's first scheduled maint. Currently have approx. 125 hours. (most spots we fish are five miles or less from our slip)that makes it kinda nice.

| Bob Did you find the gas ecomony claims to be correct. I have a 1998 225 Carb'd evinrude. The dealer states I will get approximatley 40% increase in fuel economy if I update. When I do update i will go with the e tec. I am waiting for my current motor to quit. Like you, I only fish a few miles from duck island. So until this motor quits it just does not make sense to buy a new motor just to save a 150 gals a year. PG |

| I am impressed wth the E-tec's........ ............and this is comming from someone who has a 2003 115HP E'rude "ficht ram" engine that has been a hand-full although, not all Evinrudes fault my selling dealer sucks at trouble-shooting & repairs![]() now, I have also read (on the net) about a few people that have had issues wth E-tec's on other sites, but it was usally a friend-of-a-friend kinda' story ![]()

Normally I'd put anywhere from 12 to 24 miles on a trip total (cruise, no wake, and at least a single one minute WOT burst). I usually burn between 2 a 4 gallons (rough estimate about 6mpg). In two seasons I've use 5 1/2 qts of oil. I run only the XD100 and have the EMM set up for that mix. I had a 175 ocean runner that guzzled gas(1 1/2 mpg) but can't really compare fairly with a 90hp Quote:
I've discussed some problems, I know others have had and most cases they weren't set up correctly, though like any brand you can get a bad one. I got mine at AOB Atlantic Outboard and they really seem to know what they're doing.

| Bob Thanks for the reply. Your trips sound like mine. I am out of Westbrook and most likely drift the same humps as you. Lets hope for a short winter. Hows the knee? PG |

| Knee is getting there. Doing execises now and walking a lot when it's not raining. It seems the more I use it the better it's getting, so I'm happy to have done the surgery. Stairs still a challenge, especially going down them but I hope that will improve soon also. Thanks for asking. I'll be we've probably fished next to each other an not known it.LOL We have an 18 Maritime Skiff w/green dodger and a 90hp E_TEC. "Maggie Rose" on the sides.

| BOB & MAG, I also have a 90e-tec bought it new in spring of 06. It is on a 1987 18ft proline. Had to replace the fuel pump 3 times before the dealer discovered thewiring harness was pinched from the factory. JUST MY LUCK . The dealer replaced the harness and I have not had a problem since The fuel consumption is great I run about the same as BOB and I get roughly six full days out of a 25gallon tank. I read in some reports the spark plugs have looked worned in the e-tec compared to some four strokes with the same amount of hours. Remember two strokes fire twice as much as four strokes. I also think the new e-10 fuel additive has something to do with that. All in all, I am very happy with my e-tec and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new outboard |

| Check and make sure you have the latest plugs installed. They changed them either 05 or 06 to an "iridium"(spelling) plug. They're covered by warantee if you need them.
