Is this o.k. to do?

My buddy, told me instead of removing my freeze out plugs to drain the block, that it is easier to remove the thermostat, reconnect the goosneck, and run the enigine with the muffs. While the engine is running pour 5 gals of PINK into the container connected to the muffs.... Is this right???

If you're talking an I/O.....

You should pull all drain plugs and even hoses at the low points, including your exhaust manifolds/risers. This is to make sure all fresh water has been drained BEFORE filling with antifreeze. The reconnect all hoses and close all drain plugs. You can fill it with antifreeze statically (not running) after this thru the thermostat, then put a new thermostat/gasket when you're done. Then it's all set for next year. Don't forget to fill your exhaust manifolds with antifreeze as well.

The antifreeze isn't for freezing, if you drain everything, but for corrosion protection.

If you don't drain everything first, you risk having pockets of freshwater that didn't get exposed to antifreeze.....yes, even if you run it.

BTW, the whole process didn't take me any longer than trying it the "easy way", the first time I did it.

But it guarantees the best winterization.
