Leaving livewell running overnight??

Anyone know if you leave your livewell running overnight if it will completely drain your batteries? I have dual batteries and was thinking of only leaving one battery on to run the livewell overnight keeping the other fully charged to turn the engines if the other drains. I cannot hookup to shore power...thanks.

depends on the draw of your pump and the condition of you battery.

But I think the answer will probably be yes, you will drain it.

Can you put them in a cage or trap or even a 5gal pail with holes drilled and hang it off the dock or your transom?

I have a 36x36 inch bait hotel. I hang it off the dock. I have kept a few dozen bunker alive for a few days

it's tight

If I run mine from 11 Pm to 4 Am the battery isn't quite dead but it's hurting. Luckily she charges up in an hour or so and the 3 Battery setup that I have on board is worth it's weight in gold. 1 for the well, 1 for the boat and 1 spare. I'm playing with an Oxygen system and will let you guys know how it works after September if everything pans out and I get time to fish.

It ran for the night off one battery, but it was pretty much drained and wouldn't turn the engines the next morning. Luckily I only ran off one battery as I switched over and cranked up the engines. The guy next to me thought it was my bilge and my boat was going down, until he popped the baitwell and saw fish swimming around. Not something I'll do on a regular basis, but at least i know if I need to. Thanks for the advice!

Thumbs up Livewell

I got some live bait last night and tried the Oxygen system with the pump turned off. Had about 50 whitebait (3-6 in) in a 38gal well. Started them off at about 8 last night. They were alive and well at daybreak. However I put a frozen jug in the well to keep the temp down so that may have tainted the results. I'm happy
