| Maritime 20 Defiance I'm working on a deal on a leftover 20 Maritime from Atlantic. 115 ETech on it. Any comments on ride quality, how the boat drifts? I should be looking at bigger boats but with gas prices the little Maritime sure looks nice. Comments on ETech also welcome. Besides the war that goes on, on the Hull Truth, they seem to be a pretty "wild engine" - the Evinrude website is quite informative (marketing but some of it must be grounded in reality). I've been looking at other boats but since my current boat has an engine from Atlantic (under their warranty) - this is a simple upgrade that makes a great deal of sense. Thanks -Jack |

| My 20-P was pretty darn economical on fuel......boat planed at around 12mph. I believe they are all the same hull. I ran my 20-P to Stellwagon on good days for Cod, and ran 10-15 miles past block for SBFT. I believe it held around 50 gallons or so. Also had a Maritime 18 which was a great boat. My 20-P had a 115 Evinrude Ficht. It pushed it along quite well. The two stroke will give you the snap to get you out of the hole, and I would think weighs a little less than a 4S. Currently have a MS 14' for the salt ponds Good Luck with your purchase..........can't go wrong with a MS....a very seaworthy boat ![]()

| Jack, We've got the model 1890 with a 90 E-TEC. Have used it for two seasons now and am very pleased with both boat and motor. Ride in 1 to 1 1/2' not bad, bigger and just slow down a bit. Remember it's only an 11 degree deadrise at the transom. But the waves you think are gonna get you, don't seem to, great bow design. Following sea off a corner of the transom is the worse for this hull, it can push you around if you don't change heading. Drifting is very nice. Can keep beam to or drift stern to by turning your wheel port/starboard. We have a dodger and if there's a little wind it acts as a wind sock and keeps us on a drift after tide is dying. Very stable hull (reverse chine helps a lot). No noticable difference even in our small skiff when two people are on one side leaning over to net the big one. ;) I've got some numbers written down somewhere on performance....speed vs. rpm with two different props. As mentioned above and very useful when it gets rough is we can stay on plane at 12mph gps. Motor and boat combo is very stingy on both fuel and oil. Our motor holds only 3 qts of oil and in two seasons I've used 7 qts. I did let it run down, purposely on season one to test the "low oil" sensor/alarm which worked. I do keep extra oil in the cc with a funnel in a zip lock bag, just in case as the alarm is both LOUD and ANNOYING. We have a 26 gallon fuel tank and it goes quite far. We also fish out of Clinton and most places are close. Our average trip consumes 2 to 5 gallons. These same places our old 21 SeaPro with 175 Ocean Runner would use up to 20 gallons to do the same, so it's a nice change, especially at today's prices. It is easy to get complaciant about fuel and oil levels. It needs it so seldom it's very easy just to not check it. I've got scupper plugs that I can put in, depending on type of fishing we're doing and if everyone is going to be behind the leaning post, it'll keep out the water. I'm not light and a guy I fish with is pushing 400lbs so the plugs go in if we're in the back LOL. I have lines attached to them that you can simply pull to remove plugs if needed to drain water fast...we have a two stroke wash down, you take a five gallon bucket, fill it and emtpy it on the floor... pull the string..LOL. The motor is probably the best I've owned to date, knock on wood. Starts every time, runs smooth, runs strong and pretty quiet for a 2 stroke. One guy I fish with has a 90 honda so we're always comparing them and he was amazed how quiet the E-TEC is. Run it out of the box, no break-in. Winterizing takes less than five minutes. Hook up the hose, use the starting sequence, in the manual, and fold arms and watch lights flash and the computer fogs and takes care of it, then shuts itself down when done. Hooking it up to a laptop will give you amazing amounts of information. I had to take it in for a fuel filter recall and they showed me the info in it. Amazing. If you get the I-Command guage you can see most of it while running the boat, but it wasn't available on the 90s until the 2008 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. I've added a bunch of stuff on ours since buying it and using it to first see what we needed and where the best location would be. There are also a couple of ms at Old Harbor a 20 and a 23 plus about six at Wetmore's in Westbrook. Each custom to it's owners taste. Last fall there were four of us at the wall toggin' and it looked like a commercial LOL. Wish you luck and will answer any questions you might have. Bob

| LOL...type till my fingers bleed LOL. One other thing I forgot to mention. Make sure the motor gets set up for use with XD-100 oil. BRP recommends using only the 100 if motor is to be used in temps under 40 degrees f. It's expensive but goes twice as far as XD-50. Also you can bring back your empty oil jug to refill from AOB's drum for a little more than 1/2 price.

| Bob AS much as I love my Mako I have always said the Maritime 20 with an ETEC is the wave of the future for the fishing we do. The fuel economy can not be beat. I usually do not go out if its over 1 to 2s for waves. My 21 "CC with a 225 is awsome. The 10-15 gals of gas for a morning of fishing is getting old. PG |

| Exactly why we went with a smaller boat/motor. With a bad back we weren't going out in 2' plus anyway and now I can go out 3 or 4 more times for the same cost. Boat being less than a mile from the house, it's nice to just say let's go out for an hour, grab a rod and go.

| Great Post BoB & Mag Been to the MS facility, met the employees whom were at the time..... old Whaler guys. Paul & Bev did a great job with that company, and stood behind their product 100%. I don't know where the company is at since it's been taken over by a new owner/owners. I believe Paul & Bev. are still somewhat involved as the company transitions.

| My understanding is Paul and Bev are consultants for awhile till the new owners get it together. Also I believe it's in Maine now, where they were building the hulls I was told.
