Thanks for all the feedback. Fast responses - the boat I really want is the Alloy Toy Rig - 23 Black lab but I don't have the budget for that yet from a realistic standpoint. Bob/Mag - thanks for the feedback on the oil. The boat is rigged so I will need to check it out. I'm fairly serious about this rig. My current boat (which I listed for sale on this site in the fall) - did not get any bites, with the bad boat market the trade makes sense before the rig gets any older. Maritime - the current owner of Maritime is the company that MADE the boats all along. So it makes perfect sense. If you go the MS website you will see a link to the company - they also make "chemical processing equipment" out of fiberglass. They added a new 18 footer to their line up (Atlantic has one in the lot now) - its a nice little rig and a bit more fishing oriented (big built in live well). Its a bit small but with gas prices the way they are is going to make sense. Thanks again - Jack

| Jack, I went that route selling the Sea Pro and after a ton of tire kickers in frigid weather we motored it over to Wetmore's and traded it in. Actually made out well considering the sales tax difference on the trade in price. Met the guy who bought it(AOB sold it in two weeks...go figure). Anyway Best of Luck....nothing like a new boat to get the blood going.

The deal is far from done yet but I'm leaning that way. Funny story - back in 96 I bought my 22 Hydrasport Ocean Skiff from Palmers Cover in Noank. I traded in a 1991 model 20 SeaPro (cuddy cabin) - for $7K - he sold it in front of my for $8K - I pushed the boat in the water a guy backed his trailer up and then loaded it on his trailer. The NEXT MONTH the boat was in Offshore Magazine as the "boat of the month" - listed for $15K. Not a similar boat - MY BOAT. I'm still laughing over that one. Jack

| JackC what is the $$ tag on that new 18' model? I use to run my 18' MS to the (now gone) H buoy and bang Cod on nice days. Two great boats the 18' & the 20'. My 18 had the coaming, dodger, washdown, bow cushion.........it was an awesome boat too...... That new 18 is a beauty!!! I will say I love my Pacific. I love the faces at the dock when my 10 year old son pulls her in......BANG!!!!

No idea on the cost of the 18 since I was only chatting about the 20 (leftover). Give them a ring if your interested. Its a nice little looking boat - my hunch the "new" direction that they will be taking (a few more fishing features). Jack

I have a deposit on it (I'm in a good mood). I visited Atlantic today (they were actually busy) - my boat is in Hartford for the show next week - but the deposit is down. Once its mine I will post some pictures. My next fun question - since I will be bottom painting a new rig (April or so) - what is the favorite bottom paint for Clinton Harbor - my last boat had ablative paints (a few different brands). I'm not sure if I want a hard multi-season or ablative. Comments? Favorites? (I'm not new to bottom painting by any stretch but just thought I would toss the question out.) The only thing I'm going to miss on the old boat was the garmin chart plotter and the color Lowrance Fishfinder. (also new last year) - Comments on good water proof electronics are also my question. (I have friends who hate Lowrance but they have treated me well). I have had both Garmin and Lowrance fail but after several seasons. I was impressed with Garmin's service so I'm leaning that way. (I basically got a NEW unit from them for $175 service fee - and the loaded ALL of my old waypoints in my unit for free) - kind of answering my own question. So what's the favorite water proof Fishfinder/GPS Plotter for an open boat (they are going to get wet - especially since this boat does not have a T-top)? And since I'm gabby I was considering a hand held VHF versus a fixed mount - I realize the range is not as good - but is the wet cockpit that worries me a bit. (comments) Thanks - Jack

JackC, You made a great choice!!!! I had the 20-P. Painted it myself because most place don't really take the proper time and procedures to do a through/correct job IMHO. However...........this was also the start of my back issues ![]() I used an ablative on mine in Pt. Jude Pond and then did a light sand and touch up there after. Remember it does grab a little from your speed. I had Lowrance on my 20-P no complaints. However on my Pacific I have Standard Horizon which I love. I would get the console cover to eliminate any moisture issues you may be concerned with. Especially if you leave it in the water. SH has a CP/VHF unit. Don't know how it is but it looks cool!! I also had Lenco tabs on my 20-P which was a real addition to the boat. Winter will drag now that she's yours but man you will enjoy!!!!! Congratulations!!!! AT

| Congratulations on your boat choice. Think you'll be pleased. IMO: Chartplotter Garmin (I use an old 232 b/w as it redraws twice as fast as color) Fish finder Furuno 600L Lots this machine can do and not much it won't in the sound. VHF you can get a good icom for the price of a good handheld. We have both. Paint Ablative (getting an ablative with a biocide is a little expensive but holds up nicely). Barrier coat, tracer coat (color contrasting with top coat), top coat.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll start pondering setting up the boat next week - the boat will most likely not be next to my driveway until the first week of March or late Feb. Once it gets home that's when the fun starts. If I have the budget I will ponder a T-top with some wrap around protection. Which will handle the electronics protection issue. Next question - fish storage. I have gotten smart in my old age and use coolers (with ice) to keep my catch in great shape. In my current rig I had a big igloo mounted in the bow with a cooler tie down kit also from igloo - my question is what is the best location for a "fish cooler" in the 20D? I don't want any holes in the deck so I'm pondering a cooler with some kind of anti-slip mat under it (the cooler size will change versus on seasons). I usually end up keeping quite a few fish (bass/blues) so storage is an issue (big cooler). Many of the blues go to a local convent via one of my fishing buddies - he tells me the nuns help unload the catch and its a hoot of a site to see them unloading the catch in "religious dress".
