What is Maguard, a brand of Keel guard?

The keel guard should be installed directly to the gelcoat, no pain in between. You can paint most of the keel guards out on the market with bottom paint if you wish, but as soon as you rub it up on a beach you are gonna scrape it right off anyway... My buddy has some on his maycraft and he pulls it up onto the beach. He used the spray on antifouling paint after rubbing it down with 80 grit sandpaper, but it was all rubbed off by midseason cause he drives that puppy up onto the beach at low tide sometimes, all the way out, waits for the tide to come back in.....I say just give it a scrub everynow and then if slime develops....

Thanks Dom, I think that's the brand name but I'm most likely incorrect.
I'll take your advice and sand it first and stay off the beach.

LOL maybe I'm wrong but if you stay off the beach, why would you install a keelguard?

I've been thinking about a keel gaurd , because sometimes launching or putting on my bunk trailer the keel hits slightly on the protected cross member below the bunks it's created a small biff though gelcoat 1"
It's happened a handfull of times in the past 5 yrs with this boat. Been thinking about Marine-Tex and sand ,or mounting a non marking keel roller
I trailer my boat and no bottom paint
any thoughts?
I don't know if this post belongs in this thread but instead of starting a new thread I just added to this one
thanks ML

If that's the only problem you've had, I'd just mounted keel rollers where needed and not add anything to your hull.

I like Bob's idea. However, if you are lazy, or do not want to bother with the added cost of rollers, why not just wrap some scrap carpet around the offending cross member and tie it off with line. I would still go with Bob's suggestion if it was my ride since if it is hitting a cross member, something is not right.

If I'm not mistaken most trailers are adjustable .The rollers can be raised or lower'd by sliding them in or out depending on your hull. You'd have to put the boat on jacks and raise the rollers to meet the hull.
Just a thought.
