New Copper Free anti-fouling Paint | | Has anyone tried Pettit's Vivid copper free paint? It is a new product that Pettit brought out that uses 4.9% Zinc Pyrthione as an anti fouling agent. Pettit states that it is for use in low or intermediate fouling areas for which I think New England is. Interlux also came out with a similar product but I cannot find out just what percentage Zinc Pyrthione is in it as they do not have it listed when one downloads their specification sheet. I never liked copper anti-fouling for aluminum hulls as copper and aluminum quarrels too much in a marine environment. However, zinc and aluminum seem to get along pretty well. I used to like aluminum hulls but gave up on them when they banned anti-fouling paints with tin in them. It just became too much of a chore to try and use copper laden paint on an aluminum hull. If someone out there has an aluminum hull that they have painted with one of these new paints, I would like to hear feedback as to how well they worked out. Considering the high cost of fuel, I am thinking there might be an aluminum hull in my future once again.
