oil consumption

Bill
With my Mercury Optimax which you service of course are there warning systems in place if the oil injection system goes out of wack? I know there is if the oil supply runs low but if the sensors fail or if there is a clogged line will the motor protect its self by shutting down? It seems like my oil consumption is somewhat variable. Do the Optimax Motors use that little of oil? Thanks
