Older Armstrong stainless engine Bracket (Revised)

Anyone have older Stainless Marine Bracket on there boat with a 225hp on it, this was the older style bracket that was made completely of stainless no gelcoat like the newer ones. I bought one of these for a project boat I am working on, on the inside the ratings state that I would need the "heavy duty kit" for an engine over 150 up to 235hp, is this true? This thing is built like a brick $h!t House! Can't see why it would need to be re-enforced . Any info would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Tried to find a pic online but no dice, I will take a pic later and post it when I get home.

Well, I did find part of the problem......it's an Armstrong bracket!

Heres a pic of one similar to mine but not rated for anything over a 150.

Yah, I think all the "Heavy duty kit" consisted of is two stainless rods that you bolted on but I can't find any info to support my hunch. Just can't figure out if I need them or not Checked out the websites you posted for me I will have to shoot an e-mail off. Thanks

I have a nearly identical bracket on my SeaCraft with a 225 hp Merc. It is very sturdy but I want to replace it for something with some positive flotation and a platform.

With my Merc, I can't trim the motor all the way out of the water with out hitting my transom. The bracket doesn't extend back far enough.

While on the trailer, try to keep the open area on top covered up to keep out the crap. On mine the tub drains by a gap up against the transom. If crap gets in there it will clog or at least drain a lot slower and it's a pain in the neck to clean out. You're much better off just keeping things out to begin with.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is what to do to keep the barnacles out of the inside.
