| On Board Battery Charger ?? I need to get an onboard charger for my batteries, since I don't have shore power on my ol' Formula. I have 2 batteries currently, and will be adding a third (for the radio and radar). What suggestions do you folks have? The boat will be slipped, so I want to ensure my bilge pumps have a nice fresh power supply. |

| Depends on how many amps you want...... I would say total 30 amp output would be fine, look for a small unit like the dual pro sportsman series. I used to have their triple unit with 10 amp each that was unbelieveably small and reliable. They go on all the bass boats that run electric trolling motors, so I would say for your application would be plenty, and wont break the bank. They have computer aided charging system which will not overcharge, and they are waterproof. Unit goes for around 250. I had troubles with a guest dual I had on my old robalo.

| I was just looking at those in Cabela's (but I'll keep shopping around). These are the ones you are referring to, right? Dual Pro Sportsman Edition : 3 Bank |

| what type of demands do you put on your batteries? just starting the engine or do you play tunes etc while on the hook etc (if so how long)? do you hang out on the boat while in your slip and if so do you use any electronics regularly? how big are the batts? |

I will have radar, chartplotter, 2 fish finders rolling while underway, along with VHF. Batteries are Group 27 or the one size larger, can't remember. | |

| Jim - While you're comparing the available units on the market, add the ProMariner to your list. I installed the Pro Tournament 100 on my boat two seasons ago (for two batteries). I keep my boat on a trailer and whenever I return home from a fishing trip I just plug it in and it's ready to go on the next trip. You will need to look at one of the 3-bank models (either the 150-15amps, or the 300-30amps). I've had great luck with my charger and always have the battery power when I need it. Check it out. Good luck. Bob ![]() |

| Brad, What am I missing here? How are you going to run a battery charger if you don't have shore power? |

| Not missing anything Mike. It will need to be hooked via an external cord. I am actually looking at base shore power, but damn, boating is expensive. |
