Window Seals

I've gopt glass windows on my Grady White (Pilot House) and There was some rot around the interior vaneir and while pounding in some 5' seas the sindow came out. Is there a special tool needed to put the window back in with the gasket? the gasket is shaped like an H from a profile view. here is a pic of the window in question

Disregard the pic of the dead whale. No we didn'tt catch it LOL LOL

Thanks
Armand

Armand,Does the window have a rubber Strip that goes inside the other big rubber the window sits in? If so the tool can be purchased at most auto parts store .Older Chevy trucks and cars have a two piece rubber .

If it's like a Jeep CJ windshield, which it sounds like........

You can "rope it" in by taking a small diamter rope or very thick string and wrapping it around the outside opening of the gasket.

Place the glass up against the opening with the tag ends of the string/rope THRU the opening.......

Have someone hold the glass on the other side, pretty firm.

Then slowly start pulling the string/rope, and the gasket, with a little finesse, will pull thru and grab the other side of the mounting lip. A little soap can help too, if it doesn't work well "dry".

I used to install CJ windshields like this, it wasn't too bad at all

Nice Whale!!!
How about getting a new gasket, it may just pop out again. I had a distributor in FLA somewhere bookmarked, I'll try to post it, I think it was American Marine. The seemed to have every concievable size.

Good Luck and the rope trick works for auto glass stuff no reason it shouldn't work for you.

Sounds just like the CJ gasket.....

Rope trick should work fine.....first time I did it it worked great

A friend of mine that worked at Denny's Glass back then told me how......

And the gasket.....if you bought a new one.....you can probably get it in any length you need, cut to fit, install the joint in the middle on the lower portion, and seal it when done.

That rope deal sounds like a great idea. Have to stash that one away in the memory bank.
Got to ask...were you hanging around the whale to catch sharks? Must have been pretty fragrant there.

No we weren't trying to catch sharks around there. We found it near east grounds Block Island we were on our way back from fishing soiuth of the mud hole. We stopped to report the location to the coast guard as a hazard to navigation. They alerted traffic in the area until it beached on Block Island. It did stink.
