| GPS-Portable GPSMap 478 Coastal Garmin Portable GPS Chartplotter Hello all This is my first post. Just met with Jim who will be putting a hardtop on my new (to me) rig - a Wellcraft 240 Coastal w carbed Johnson OB. I'll post a pic when its done. I also have an older Cruiser used mostly as a cabin these days and have been using hand held GPS's to date. Anyway back to electronics...does anyone have this unit? I am looking for a portable unit I could use on either boat or in my car. With the gift certificate this is still a bit pricey but seems pretty user friendly and I am used to the Garmin logic. It is a bit small, but I like the portability, internal antenna, built in data bases and I guess there is a $250 off promotion now. I suppose the sell a mounting kit for use in the second boat but.... Any thoughts or comments are appreciated. Thanks Bob Last edited by Grunt; 08-21-2007 at 03:16 PM. | Hi Grunt, I have the gpsmap276c. Very similar to your unit but mine does not have weather and sounder capability. I use mine as a backup on my boat and in the car. Works great for both and I highly recommend them. |

| I don't know anything about that unit, but did you at one time go by L I Sound Grunt on another site. If so, I referred you to Jim a while back on that other site when you were looking at a cc. He'll do a great job on your boat. Mine is pictured in a message in the Arctek forum. Welcome. GP Last edited by GP-TJ; 08-21-2007 at 11:21 PM. Reason: added user name on other site |

| Yep, that is me! Thanks for the referral! I can't wait to get the hardtop. I couldn't find a cc that I could afford so I picked up the walk-around and so far I really like it. The Top should really make it look like a serious fishing machine. Not that that will help me...... I am hoping to get some real local fishing info here - so far I seem to be able to catch blues and not much else. The joke on the boat is We pretend to fish and the fish pretend to bite. But thats Ok with me - I just like being out on the water. Take care Bob |
