Stern Light Low output

I have a stick light that goes into the gunwale at the stern of my boat but I know I am using a good bulb the reading on my voltmeter says I getting a output of ~6 volt and not 12 like the other light at the front(windsheild) what could be the issue with this ?

I'm thinking 1. connections corroded 2. Wiring corroded
You clean off connections and re-do them if they look bad.
Get some wire(approx. same length and what is there) run from power source to stern light and check dc voltage.

Sounds like a bad ground wire . remove and clean all connections . Some where you have green corrosion going on.Once you get them clean and working either cover the with dielectric grease or vaselene.

If it is a removable light, do what these guys said, clean the connections but then apply some dielectric grease to the contacts.
