Alaska

Taking the 2 boy's on a fly-in to AK for kings in late June early July. My dad had always wanted to go to AK, but never made it. I just can't wait to see my sons faces when the hook into their first AK king or maybe a 10 lb rainbow. This is a peak time for kings in the fly fishing and light spinnig waters of the river system that I'm fishing. I went there 2 years ago for a week and never caught so many fish in such a short period of time. Kings were not in season, but I did get a couple on...by mistake...my Lord what a fish...nothing like the "mud gators" [(kings) what the locals call 'em] we chase in upstate NY.
I know that they will take flies and various spoons. The last time I went, after procrastinating for damn near 50 years, I tied more than 300 flies and made over 100 spinners. By day 3 I was tying more of certain patterns at the lodges' tying bench after breaking off so many fish. BUT WHAT ABOUT WOOD. I know J-Plugs are supposewd to take fish, but I tried to make one once and it sucked. OCCSA (Dan) makes "traps" and I think they'll work (already talked to him), but does anyone know of something that I can spin out of wood that'll work?
Thanks,
Doc
PS If you'd like to take a look at the place go to www.wildernessplacelodge.com Would that be sweet to get a bunch of us there for a few days!!!!
