No, not the fishing lure type, well not yet anyway, but real deer tails. My friend Bob knows I have been playing around building wooden plugs and he knows that I need hair of some sort to dress the hooks. Anyway, he was at Dee's in New Haven last Friday and bought a buck tail for me, nice guy that he is. Then yesterday, he's working in Bethany and comes accross a dead deer on the side of the road. Bob, the nut that he is, gets out of his truck and cuts off the tail with a pocket knife and brings it to my house. It even had a bit of meat still attached to it. LOL So now I have two buck tails and I'm pissed that I never thought of swiping the tails off of road kill myself. | ||

| Thats funny ,Every Deer I shoot I save the tail. Then before I get a chance to give them away or actually use them the mice eat all the good meat and fat from them and the hair falls apart. So Don't leave them where the mice can get at them. | ||

| Cut hide from tail bone...ON THE DARK SIDE (TOP) if you want just the white hairs. Then place the tail hair-side down and trim away the dark skin...you now have an all (almost all) white tail. Cover the hide with salt and forget about it for a few weeks until hide is good and dry. Soak in water to remove salt and then wash in BORAXO. It will be nice and white. You can immediately dye it or just let it dry and it's ready to use.

| Gonna slice it and dice it tonight. Thanks Fishdoc. Should I add any other seasonings beside salt, like garlic powder or oregeno? ;) | ||
