Cool!!!! If I didn't know any better, I would have guessed it was southern yellow pine. Grain is very similar.

Tackle Junkie stopped by yesterday and brought a couple pieces of mahogany for me.
Can't wait to see what it looks like sanded and polished. I was going to save the wood for a box but I just may try to turn it instead....

Wish I could get my hands on some cheap Ipe.....

BTW... I got that cypress from a guy in Arkansas. Most of the stuff he sent checked on me before even turning it. It was supposed to be dried but it wasn't. He then sent me more that he swore was dry but the moisture content was 20% and it cracked too.

Too bad, the price was right....

Ohhh that sucks. I held on to this piece for about 4 or 5 months befor turning it. Hopefully it doesn't crack . I've never used ipe either??

Be careful with the mahogony. It's very bad on the lungs. Man we need to get together for some fishing it's just starting to pick up .

Well guys here is the finished product on this project:

It got sealed then a light coat of white stain then multi coats of clear. Then it got rigged with Wolverine Split rings and 7/0 VMC rear hook and 5/0 VMC belly treble.
How's it look?
