I read up some on Basswood (Linden) here:

What do you plug gurus think? Is it good for plugs? Seems it would be, says it doesn't split, is good turning, etc etc....

Here's a FREE tree for the taking once the gent cuts it down! Store the wood, and you're all set forever

We make CO2 cars in my transportation class out of Basswood and the stuff shapes great. My kids are working on them right now.

Great wood but more trouble than it's worth to use it.

Basswood (American Linden) is a great wood to work with.
It's used in many carvings.
Finishes nicely, hard etc etc.

Some of the basswood I've carved, I've kept on hand stacked/drying for up to twenty years....All good things come to he who waits. ;)
