A Saltwater Fishing Community...Where There Is No BS About The Sport
| | |||||||
| Lures, Lure Building, & Fly Tying If you use it to catch fish (or at least try), then this is the place for that. If you actually make them, then we really want to hear about your styles and successes. |
What have you got to say about the topic of: "Here are some HUGE WOOD!". Here's how is started: "I think the jungle wood you are referring to is actually Ipe. Pronounce E-pay..."

| B2 You got it right. I called my buddy in Mexico yesterday, and he gave me the skinny. They call it Jungla, for jungle wood, and there are actually a couple of others substituted that are just as hard, Jarrah, and Cumaru, very similar species of trees, which are extremely dense, and grow to over 140 feet tall.

| If you want to see some, fairly old, Ipe, check out the DEP dock on the Old Lyme side of the Connecticut river. They installed it about 15 years ago.

| How is it holding up? The Atlantic City Board Walk has been replaced with Ipe as well. They claim that in 24 years it shows no wear... http://www.austinwholesaledecking.com/atlantic_city.jpg

| The stuff wears very well. Untreated it turns a silver grey and other than some notches carved in the handrail, it great.
