What have you got to say about the topic of: "Question/Opinions on Needlefish Weighting". Here's how is started: "Hello everyone. I'm building some needle fish and I'm looking for input on what you "

Hello everyone. I'm building some needle fish and I'm looking for input on what you guys prefer. I know of some people that really sware by floating needlefish and others that like slow sinking needles and even those who like the fast sinkers. What my questions are for all of you that are experienced needle fish users: Do you prefer Sinking or floating? Do you prefer fast or slow sinking? What weights for an 8" plug? What type of rear hook? Colors? Single or Double Treble's for belly? Thanks guys, I look forward to your input. Armand | ||

| I'm a pluggin knothead. I use them, don't get me wrong, but I am far from knowing the details you are asking. LOL. I prefer the floating needlefish myself, mud treble, rear single, black white or yellow are my preferred colors. | ||

| Depends where you fish them.In my area lots of rocks and water is shallow so only floating or very slow sinking needles work.As for hooks thats up to you i prefer a siwash on the butt end because of the bluefish around here also.As for double or single belly trebles also depends on the length of the plug and depending on the action sometimes two hooks kills it.Just my .02 but as you know nothing is written in stone as far as plugbuilding is involved. | ||

| Best I can do for ya...is make one out of what the final plug will be made from. Do all of yer drillin's and wire it with hooks. For the most part I do the same as Lu. One belly hook about an inch or so behind the eye and a tail hook, usually a dressed Siwash...size depends on needle (reg, short, fat, etc.) Now mess with the weight. BEST WAY to do this is to figure what you want it to do and then just TAPE some known weight to it where you think it should go and put the sucker in a bucket of water and LOOK at it, remembering that Saltwater is slightly more boyant, but I don't think it has enough of an effect on a plug to make lots of difference. | ||

| good stuff very good stuff. I myslef prefer sloooooowwww sking or even float but I've heard some people like the quick sinking. Can't think of when I would use them. But I'm trying different combos' with definately single rear hook and single bellie treble. Armand | ||

| I think that the only reason for a floating needles is shallow, rocky water. Othewise all sinking... fast, slow whatever! | ||

| Weight the needle so it sinks very slowly, Tail first! Or more correctly in a tail slightly down attitude. (The entire plug sinks at about a 25 degree angle). You can always pull the plug back to the surface!! OK! Then make a couple that float "flat" for use in the shallows. | ||
