| i love needlefish. i like slow sinkers. tail down like they said. the fast sinkers have their place too, like in very swift deep water or casting into heavy wind. I don't use floating. if i reach for a floating (no-lip) plug it would be a spook/howdy or popper.

| your right about the mooning Sorry Zac your right about the strong current and heavy wind. That would help with that especially rear weight. | ||

| When using a needlefish it depends on what you're trying to represent. Don't know about you fellas, but "matching the hatch" is still a time tested approach to catchin' fish....but I still don't know why an all yellow plug is so good. Needles can represent just about anything in a fishes food chain, but a needle that imitates a sand eel is a terrific bait. Make some in a thinner than usual profile and throw it into water where there is known to be sand eels and hold on. The bay and shore beaches of the Cape provided more than a few great days of fish catching and they were not all rats. Problem was the big ones always "got away"...we were using Boone needles and the hooks were just to weak and larger hooks seemed to kill their effectiveness. Black or "Blurple" needles at night shopuld be a part of every plug bag. | ||

| Doc I hear you with the blurple. I had a request to build some purple poppers for some guys down in the Chesapeak bay and I ended up selling a ton of them down there. They do very well at night. And your reasoning is super-sound. I definately will use only top notch hardware on my lures. No cheap hook, split-rings or swivels. I'd feel terrible to lose the fish of a lifetime on an equipment failure or for anyone else to have that happen. Armand | ||
