Tubes and Keels ?

Just looking for thoughts on the weight'd leaders.Instead of the actual keel they sell with other tubes. I was wondering if you think this will work?
Thanks,Chuck

I'll show ya the tubes we make sometime Chuck

No weighted keels......less gear "showing" in the water

Remember, less gear "showing" in the water, more & bigger bass......in general

Chuck, In the first photo on the bottom left, the wire leader with swivels.
I've thought of using something similar and have yet to put it together.
My thought was a sleeve and swivel at one end and on the other end a sleeve small enough to slide through egg sinkers. A swivel on main line could clip to the wire loop. This way adjusting weight for various depths where using more line is impractical, you would simply unclip line and add / remove egg sinkers to vary depth. I've got some real small sleeves but haven't check to see if they go through the eggs when wire is crimped in them.
Good swivels eliminate the need for a Keel in my experience and we've fished tubes going on 20 years. Also keels seem to be weed magnets.
I also like the weights to be approx 4' ahead of the tube when possible.

Hey Chuck, I'm not saying it won't work. i'm sure it will catch fish. The disadvantage I see with it is all the extra hardwars (crimps, swivels, weights) will be magnets of catching weeds, kelp and rocks. The sleaker the set up the better.

Well said....and fishing the waters around here, there's weed everywhere.

That's why umbrellas are such a pain in the ass......one bump and you gotta crank in and start all over.

Monomoy is great for umbrellas (as long as you know the gear!!!!)

Sandy bottom, you can bump bottom all day long, and the sand stirred up seems to really bring the bass in!

The order arrived yesterday for my surgical tube.I now have 8 different colors .These are 14 inch and 18 inch tubes Single strand solid in the 18's and single 49strand 275# SS cable in the 14's.I'm going to start multi strand solid SS wire .I'm still searching for Billet Aluminum heads that will fit in the tube. The type used on offshore skirted squid rigs just smaller.Anyone have info on them?
