Lightbulb WE HAVE A WINNAH, Free Blackfish thread

Okay, here's a way to increase participation here on NBS. I have grown very fond of the NBS family here, and would like to see it grow. There are an awful lot of members signed up, who do not contribute with posts. I realize that many prefer to simply read, but for me it would sure be interesting to see who you lurkers are.

In that vein, I am running a contest for a set of 4 free fares on my open boat blackfish trips for fall 2008, good on any available date with open spaces. The whole set may also be turned in for blackfish trip as a private charter for 4. These trips were a great success for me and those that booked as well, with many guys taking advantage of the incredible blackfishing we have here in RI.

Any current NBS members with less than 10 posts may enter, as may any new members who join between now and the end of the contest, which will be March 20th, 2008. It is winter, so plenty of time for this stuff.

The criteria for entry is this: You must post in this thread, introducing yourself to the membership here on NBS. You must include the waters you fish, the species you target, the largest or best fish you have ever caught, and a few interesting tidbits or stories as well as pictures of you, your boat, fish etc..... You must be a new member in 2008, or a current member who has less than 10 posts. A simple "Hi" will not work here, for all you shy guys and gals.

I will pull randomly the winner from all the posts here on this thread. In addition, the best post as judged by me, with the best read and pictures, will also recieve 2 fares for open boat trips.

Any who are located outside reasonable driving distance, my wife runs a great local inn right in downtown Newport and I get rooms at price that is almost free.... Or, why not enter, win it, and then gift it if just too far for you....

So what are all you lurkers waiting for? If you haven't joined yet, do so now and get the ball rolling.

Let's hear from you now.....

Dom,

This is a VERY GENEROUS offer on your behalf. If you need a mate to net and fillet, let me know, I'll be glad to help out, at no cost !!

I can fillet well, and man a net like a madman.

You are officially "hired", my friend.

I figured this will get some response from all the lurkers here, as well as maybe get a few new ones to join. I will also get a chance to impress a few new potential clients, so a win win situation.

Maybe we could get this thread visible to any new visitors to the site somehow?

sounds great count me in. I'm fishcounter bob. I'm a fisheries interviewer who works in RI but lives in Ct. I chase every species and am not satisfied until I catch a sample of each Ri species each year. Yellowfin, Bluefin, Albicore, Falsie, Bonito [shore ], winter and summer flounder, Weakfish, Sword, Sea Bass, Scup, Tautog, Cod, Ling, Pollack, Haddock,Toad, Hake, Mahi, Triggerfish, Wolffish, Blues, Bass [50 club surf Block Island ], Salmon, and all those fresh water species. I put in over 200 days of salt water fishing per year on headboats from Maine to Jersey, my own boats in Ct { clinton and New Haven ], RI charterboats, and RI surf fishing. From white perch to tommy cod, herring for the hollidays, squid spawns and worm hatches, I love the seasons. It never ends. For the next 50 years the fish should be running scared. I was a builder, teacher, soccer coach, and the last of my kids is in her last semester of college. I'm just about out of the woods. My wife works and loves her job and never wants to retire. Imagine that.
If anyone needs a boat hand, mate, gas and bait sharing fish chaser, I'm there. I don't wear a watch, and always leave a clean boat. I only take what I eat and no longer freeze fish.
I fished commercially from Seattle for salmon and tuna in the early 80's down to Cal and up to Alaska and out to Hawaii on a 58' troller, and did the striper thing at Block Island before that. When I returned East I did the lobster and finfish gig. Now I fish only recreationally and have very strong feelings about the regs and future of the fisheries.
I hope many of you nbs'rs introduce yourselves to me when I'm interviewing on the Frances Fleet, Seven B's V, and shore sites. Your input is very important to the future of our fisheries.
And once again , throw my name into the hat for any fishing trip.
