Ristori: Mud Hole remains place to go for ling Tuesday, January 16, 2007 BY AL RISTORI T he Mud Hole ling run that developed out of nowhere last winter and continued through the rest of the year, shows no signs of slowing up whenever conditions are fishable. At Brielle, Capt. Francis Bogan is sailing every day at 6:30 a.m. for that sport with the Paramount, and reported average catches of 10 to 15 over the weekend. Egg Harbor counted 42 Saturday. Jess Scott from Newark had 20 ling, and John Flower of Paterson bagged 18. Louis Lamandri of Seaside Park won Sunday's pool with a 10-pound cod. Dale Isaacs of Manchester caught 28 ling Thursday, when Mike Halpin of Toms River took the pool with a ling over 7 pounds. Jerome Hodge from Rahway hooked 23 ling Wednesday despite windy weather that cut the trip short by an hour. Capt. Joe Bogan has had excellent results during special Mud Hole wreck trips with the Jamaica II. With the water temperature still at 50 degrees, he has also found some jumbo sea bass along with cod, pollock and white hake on wrecks in 120 to 150 feet. Luis Ferriera of Elizabeth won Saturday's pool with a 6 1/4-pound sea bass. Ed Icarius of Freehold was high hook Sunday with 53 ling and two cod. Recent outstanding catches included a 26-pound pollock for William Neumann of Lincroft; a 23-pound cod by John Cargill of Trenton; and a 15-pound cod plus 4 ![]() ![]() Trophy blackfish have been caught during Monday and Tuesday trips for that species from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ed Nolan of Manasquan Park boated a 13 1/4-pounder; Kenneth Marvulli from Brick had a 14 1/4-pound tautog; Ryan Borgunn from Lincroft weighed a 14116-pound tog; and Amy Liu of East Brunswick bagged a 12916-pounder. Brielle Tackle has also seen some huge blackfish. Al Wynne of Point Pleasant used blueclaw crab to fool a 16 1/2-pounder on the Mary M. Rich Bara of Bedminster had a 12 1/2-pound tog on Shin-Dig. That shop has rod building classes set for Feb. 5, 7 and 9 -- and for the same dates in March. Total cost for the three nights is $65. Call (732) 528-5720 for reservations. Capt. Howard Bogan Jr. continues to find plenty of big sea bass and porgies on 50- to 80-mile wrecks with his Jamaica. Pool winners last week included Bill Gardner of Trenton with a 25-pound pollock and Jeff Anderson from Glen Ridge with a 10-pounder. Richard Wu of Queens, N.Y., boated a 7-pound sea bass, and Pablo Antonio from Argentina had a 7 1/2-pounder as limits were common in still relatively warm 53-degree waters. The Atlantis also made a trip out there that produced sea bass limits for all. The Jamaica sails to those wrecks at 1 a.m. every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Call (732) 528-5014 for reservations. | ||
