Reel Draggin' Tackle -Report Middle Chesapeake Bay

25 November 2006
About this time of year the Reel Draggin? Tackle Fishing Team switches its focus from offshore to the Chesapeake Bay for the remainder of the year. Of course, we are always ?Gassed and ready for an emergency offshore fishing trip?!
We are running two boats, one out of Pax River and the other out of West River. Today was the Teams first run from Pax River, and all I can say is that I hope it gets better.
The Honu left Pax River entering the Bay shortly after sunrise and dropped lines in the channel just short of the 78 buoy then proceeded to the south. Jerry Behnken, Captain of fishing vessel Honu, worked the channel and edges to 30 feet and continued south without a pull. The marks were there, 20 to 45 feet, but no takers. The Honu went as far south as the HI, where there seemed to be a little more action. There were a few small fish pulls, but no Bubba. I think we are headed further South.
All the lures pulled were big, #10 Tony?s and big eye buck tails dressed with 9? shads, white and chartreuse. The whole water column was covered, using downriggers to position the lures just above the marks when we saw them, in general, 20 to 35 feet ?looked? good.
