Third Annual Flounder Pounder OCMD

Poured rain till about 11:00 am Sat morning 6/30/2007 so I told my daughter
(fishing partner for the tourney) to sleep in. Checked with AKE Marine (the tourney Sponsor) to make sure all was still on, the rain stopped and we launched the mako at a leisurely 1pm. Headed to the back of Assateaque Island just north of the ocean City airport. Set up for the first drift my daughter fishing a Chincoteaque rig ( bucktail bottom, flounder rig about 12" up) on #20 spinner with squid strip on the bucktail and a gulp crab on the upper. I had made up several flounder rigs with a mylar tied rivet a oval glow bead and then a bucktail rivet and another glow bead ahead of a 7/0 circle hook with a BIG squid strip. She got bit on the first drift (no hook-up) people all around were catching throwbacks. The tide was mid way thru the ebb moving just right but the water was not pretty. On the second drift I hooked up to what turned out to be one of the winning fish(tied for first place @ 4.9lbs each). There are flounder here but keepers are few and far between. Seems like once the ebb tide is off the bite stopped. This is the first ever tourney that I have had something to weigh let alone finish in the money. The 1st and 2nd place money were combined and spilt between us the third place fish was 4.7!
This is a great, affordable tourney with a good weigh-in party! After all these years of inshore tourneys I finally scored! Got some pics, I'l try to load them. Got them loaded in the gallery under captcl.
