codfishing on the Makomania

Took four Long Islanders out to Cox's on Friday. Surprise surprize! no doggies at all except for the very last fish of the day. The group had a ball catching over 100 cod on clams. Full coolers of filets kept the smile on their faces all the way back to New York.

Didn't see a one. There was a boat shark fishing not too far away, AFAIK he caught nothing while we were close.

Great job on the Cod Mike......what was the keeper to throwback ratio? Awesome news on the lack of doggies as well!

Awesome Mike

Mike,

Great news, maybe the fish are finally starting to return to Cox's ledge. How many keepers out of the 100?

Thanks,

Dave

We kept about 30 of the fish, so I guess it was about 1 keeper for every 4 fish, or so. Biggest fish were over 15 pounds but most of the keepers were about 5 pounds each. All of those small fish bode well for the future!

Mike, I've been meaning to drop some jigs on the way back in from a canyon trip, but we are usually so spent, that we keep on going. Any luck with jigs or only bait? And how deep? Maybe the next trip when we get the next window.

Most of the time no one wants to jig when they see everyone else hooking up on clams. We did it again this past Friday. Well over 100 fish for four CT anglers. Coolers full of filets went back west.
